Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street: The String of Pearls — The Complete Annotated Edition, Volume Two
About
The thrilling conclusion of the complete, unabridged original that gave the world Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. This is Volume Two.
The barber’s trade by St. Dunstan’s church has grown too bold, and the mystery of the string of pearls, the missing sailor, and the celebrated pies of Mrs. Lovett draws steadily toward the light. Suspicion gathers around the little shop on Fleet Street, and the machinery of Sweeney Todd’s dark fortune begins, at last, to turn against him.
At more than one hundred and seventy chapters, the full 1850 penny-part romance is a genuinely two-volume work, reprinted here whole and unabridged. Volume Two carries Chapters 85 through 177, bringing the great penny dreadful to its close. Volume One (Chapters 1 to 84) begins the story and carries the edition’s introduction and the original 1850 Preface.
This Complete Annotated Edition adds Notes on the Text explaining the period references and Fleet Street geography, and a Reader’s Guide with a timeline and discussion questions.
Contains scenes of violence and menace consistent with the original text.
